At one side of the road, documented already
in 1386, connecting the convent of Salzburg across the "Hirschbichl" with its
possessions in the "Pinzgau" the village of Ramsau was erected. The houses were built
up along the road on the valley's bottom. On both
sides of the road alpine farms developed on the moraine terraces climbing
up to the heights of 3280 feet and expanding over to the "Taubensee." Ramsau is
completely bound up with its alpine mountains, the Watzmann and the Hochkalter look right
into the window of the farmers. One side of the valley is limited by
the Hoher Göll, the opposite side by the Reiteralpe. To the North steep
meadows become wooded rounded mountain tops offering a good view. Pastures and many
mountain forests surround the area. It is not without a good reason that Saint
Vinzenz, the woodcutter's patron saint figures in Ramsau's
emblem. One road leads from Berchtesgaden to Ramsau between rocky spurs and
roaring waters. Another one leads from the "Saalachtal" into the village of
Ramsau. This way is part of the famous German Alpine Route which leads from the
"Bodensee" with a length of over 400 km to Berchtesgaden. Driving this road you
has the possiblity to see the most beautiful sceneries in Germany. In Ramsau the visitor will enjoy a natural and original
atmosphere. In the community center you find a really famous church which is
shown on numerous photos and calenders of our Region. The view on the photo
above with Ramsau church and "Reiteralpe" in the background is world-known.
The old "Kunterweg" chapel, an old pilgrimage church above the
village is also worth a visit. But Ramsau offers their guests aditionally a lot
of nature, for exampel the pituresque Hintersee with the so called "Wonderwood",
the Hirschbichl, the Wimbachtal with its Wimbachklamm, the Soleleitungsweg
(Hiking trails)
and many more ... More
