This community, the second largest in Bavaria, deduces
its name from "Wiese des Bischofs" (pasture of the bishop). It refers to a
Salzburg bishop who in 1155 exchanged this area against a farm in Lower Austria. As its points of interest we should mention the frontier fortifications
around the pass of "Hallthurm" from the 12th century, the pilgrimage church in
"Loipl" and the marvellous view of the mountains on the "Kastensteinerwand."
Unequalled in beauty is the "Maximilians-Reitweg", a path leading from the
"Aschauerweiherbad" (open-air nature swimming pool) to the pass of "Hallthurm"
along the brooks and past centuries-old mountain maples, a path that is
unequalled in its category. In winter you find a perfect prepared cross-country ski run around
"Aschauerweiherbad." For skating and classic style. More
