The path over the Watzmann leads you from parking lot "Hammerstiel" in Schönau or parking lot "Wimbachbrücke" on the way to Ramsau, in a more boring and tiring hike of about 4 hours to the Watzmann house. If you plan an overnight stay, do not forget to do a reservation, because during the peak season in August and September the Watzmann house is very busy. The character of the way via the stony north ridge to "Hocheck", the first of the three Watzmann peaks is also more disappointing. But by reaching the first peak the tour suddenly changes. A small fissured, but well rope-secured track leads the hiker to the second peak, "Mittelspitze". During that part you can enjoy an incredible panorama on the lake and in the rock faces. Now the most impressing section of the tour follows with the second and more demanding part of the ridge where you can admire nearly unbelievable views in the infamous "Watzmann Ostwand".

We strongly advise you to pay attention on the weather:

• after a sudden change in the weather it is nearly impossible to orientate yourself.
• while flash of lightning - danger on the ridge 
• not possible after fresh snow or if the track is icy.
