The guided tour through the royal castle is equal to an expedition into
the history of art. From romanticism (cloister), over Gothic, Baroque, Rococo
to Biedermeier period you can see and experience the diversity of the various
art periods. For more than eight centuries the royal castle has been enhanced
and expanded, whereas the old parts of the building remained largely unchanged.
So you can directly compare the different periods in just one building. At the same time they form an authentic background to bring
the history of the Berchtesgadener country and the Bavarian Royal Family back
to life. Royal prince Ruprecht let furnish some rooms with exhibits of
the Wittelsbacher art posessions. The collection of exhibits covers sculptures,
among other things of Tilman Riemenschneider, Veit Stoß etc. In
addition hunting arms and trophies, including the strongest Bavarian deer with a weighted antler of
18.3 kg. Precious furniture, exquisite china and paintings of great artists, first
of all from the Munich school. The guidance ends in a rose garden with a beautiful sigth of
the Mt. Watzmann massif. for further information tel.: +49 (0) 86 52-9 47 98-0 fax:
